must it run at startup

is it possible to have it not start with windows? when it was giant I tried
it but dumped because I could not keep it from loading with windows.I like
it but how can I keep it from loading with windows? tried unchecking real
time protection enable at start up and when windows start icon is in tray
and says real time protection enabled options still show this is not
checked. I consider any program I can not control to be no better than
malware itself.
