Musix GNU+Linux

Don't know if that has been posted before, but Musix is a Linux
distribution (based on knopix) that is amied at musicians or other
people who want to work with audio and other multimedia applications.
You can download a Live CD, so people who just want to play around with
itdon't have to install it on their computer (although that would of
course enhance performance). The Live CD can probably also be used to
create a vmware image to use with the free vmware player, but I haven't
tried that yet.

Musix comes with loads of free software preinstalled (jack, rosegarden,
audacity etc) and tuned to work together with minimum configuration
from the user. So even linux newbies should find their way around.

It's an early version so there is plenty of work to do, but I kind of
like the idea of using Linux to create appliance like installations
that are tuned for a specific purpose and can be used out of the box.

Cheers

It all looks rather Spanish, so I didn't follow things too well, and some
links didn't work, but it looks like a good idea.

I quite fancy the notion of all my music tasks on one distro, as they're
rather demanding, and use a lot of Windows, but not much of the time
IYSWIM.

But I couldn't work out if it would handle multitrack staff entry, I'm
afraid I can't do midi with piano rolls and event lists.

Any way of finding out?

Here is some info on the score editor :

That looks really nice, Lars, thanks.

I've had little success with linux as yet, but later distros have nearly
worked, only internet connectivity with a usb adsl modem still out of my
reach.

And earlier attempts, I could not get the sound to work!

But my music apps are such a mixture of Noteworthy, Cakewalk express,
Timidity, and Soundforge, (and a section of my computer all to themselves),
that if this works it may be ecxellent

I had my share of problems with Linux as well. But I tried the Live CD
on my desktop was well as on my Thinkpad and everything was working
fine without any configuration on my side, Soundcard, Internet etc.
Being run from a CD, the performance of course wasn't that great, but
once I get more familiar with it, I might just install it on the
harddisc.
