Why can't I import music files from CDs and/or C: to my movies? All files
are reading "protected by Digital Rights Management". Will I be able to add
my music to my movie?

The reason you can't use your music is because it is copy protected. If
it's purchased music (paid for and downloaded from the internet) then it
comes that way. If you burned them yourself from CD's then you have "use
digital rights" checked in the preferences of whatever program you used to
rip the CD's. You can only import "non-copy protected" music. you will
need to re-rip the music to your hardrive again, but make sure you turn off
the copy protection. if its purchased (downloaded) music, the only way I am
aware you can strip the copy protection off, is to burn the songs to an
audio CD, and then re-rip them to your hard drive without the protection.
It's a long way around, but it works.
<editorial> It's really a shame that honest people who pay for their music
have such a hard time using it as they wish, but it's very easy to use
illegally downloaded music. </end soapbox>

I am trying to replace the audio that is on my video clip with music. I
bought my MP3 song through RealPlayer/Rhapsody. I imported it to the Movie
Maker and dragged it to the audio/music line of the Timeline. I did not get
an error message concerning copyright or anything like that. However, the
music doesn't play with the video. All I get is the audio that was on the
video to begin with, which as I said I am trying to replace. I saved the
music to a CD but don't know how to import it from the CD--it doesn't seem to
work. I also don't know what it means to "rip" the music. This MM newsgroup
would not allow me to use my main email address, which is
(e-mail address removed), so I had to use a gmail account to be notified
of replies and I am having trouble with the gmail account. If you can reply
to my verizon account, I would be most grateful. Isn't there an easier moving
making program for us newbies? Thank you for any help you can give me.

Lots of info...scroll down.....

Believe me...Movie Maker 'is' an easy program
but like any other software it takes a little practice.

If you created a Music CD...the files will be in the
..cda format and will have to be ripped. The following
article explains how to do that...

Windows Media Player 10
Quickly Rip CDs to Your Computer
http://tinyurl.com/3nvfu
or...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/rip_how_to.aspx

Windows Media Player 11
Rip (Copy) Songs from
CDs to Your Computer
http://tinyurl.com/ywmevc
or...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/mp11/rip.aspx

When you rip the files from the music CD...choose
..wma as your target format and then they won't
need convertion from .mp3.

If you do not like the audio on the video clip...just
right click the Audio Track and choose Mute.

As for the .mp3...Movie Maker has issues with .mp3
files...best bet may be to convert it to .wmv. The
following free download from Microsoft can do that
for you.

Windows Media Encoder
http://tinyurl.com/bbal
or...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&displaylang=en

How to convert .mp3 to .wma
using Windows Media Encoder

Open Windows Media Encoder

On the New Session screen / Wizards tab...
choose...Convert a file / OK

On the File Selection screen...browse to the
..mp3 Source File you wish to convert

Also browse to and select a save folder and
enter a name for your converted file /
Save button / Next

On the Content Distribution screen I usually
choose 'File Archive' / Next / Finish.

When you see the 'Encoding Results' screen
the task is complete.

My previous message says: "best bet

..wmv should have been .wma.

Sorry.
