Music Tasks in Windows XP Don't Work

Hello,

My ability to use Music Tasks has stopped working in XP.
Used to work, but just stopped.

When I go into my music folders via Windows Explorer or
My Music (as opposed to Media Player), and then try to
hit "Play All" in "Music Tasks," it does nothing.

FYI, this is the not the deep nested folder issue that
has been ID'ed by MSFT. These are folders one or two
deep, so someting fundamental is not working. Also, I
have a few players on my desktop, but Media Player is the
default for mp3's and wma's.

Can anyone help.

.not much other than to download the most recent version,
see if it works better. There are better players than
Media. If you have a sound card, it might have one more
reeliable. It may have different features, perhaps... My
most recent experience, smply PLAYING a CD, had Media
Player skipping, EG: fr the end of track 1 to the
beginning of track 15. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I updated the player and that did
not fix the problem. I think it may be something in the
OS itself that is preventing connection to the Media
Player. Any ideas out there?

Make sure the CD is set to play digitally, and CD Digital and CD
Audio, and Volume mute boxes are not ticked in the Mixer. If they are
OK, then:

If you use Media Player 9, browse it to the CD, and choose
track01.cda and it says:
"
The selected file has a file scheme that is not recognized by Windows
Media Player, but the Player may be able to play it. Because the
extension is unknown by the Player, you should be sure that the file
comes from a trustworthy source.

Do you want the Player to try to play the file?"

then you have the same problem I do. Too bad, because I've tried a lot
of things without success..

There is one CD player that will play, called CDex, but it is
primarily a track ripper.

Winamp3 and iTunes do not work.

These are mp3 files in my folders. Nothing to do with
CDs. The files play fine if I launch them in Media
Player, but if I try to link to them via Music Tasks, it
does nothing. It's supposed to launch the Player, and
used to do so.
