Multiple TCP/IP components.

I have three PCs on a home network. These are a P4/2.4 GHz/XP, a laptop with
XP and a P2/800 MHz/ME. All PCs see each other and can communicate. In the
ME PC there are several instances of "Internet Connection Sharing" and
"TCP/IP." These are related to "Instant Wireless USB Network Adapter, ver
2.6" (Linksys), "Internet Connection Sharing", "Kingston EtherRX KNE111TX
PCI Fast ethernet Adapter" and "Linksys Wireless B USB Network Adapter
v2.8." The other two PCs do not have these multiple instances.

Do I need all these instances of "Internet Connection Sharing" and "TCP/IP?"
If not, which can I safely delete?

Peter.

Peter.

Is the ME PC acting as an ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) host?
That would be the case if ME connects directly to the Internet
(dial-up, cable modem, DSL, etc), and the other computers connect to
the Internet through the ME PC.

If so, the ME PC needs the "Internet Connection Sharing" components.

If not, go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup |
Communications and un-install Internet Connection Sharing.

I've written a web page about Win ME ICS that might help:

ICS Installation [WinMe]
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/ics/icsmeinstall.htm

The ME PC will have a TCP/IP instance for every network adapter that
has ever been installed. If the computer no longer uses a particular
network adapter, go to Device Manager and disable or un-install it.
