multiple KILL.EXE and NET.EXE instances during startup

Geoffrey

Need help here.
When i reboot my server, I get this pop up even before i
could login to my server.

Net.exe - Application Error : The application failed to
initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate
the application.

and

Kill.exe - Application Error : The application failed to
initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate
the application.

When i log in, it just hangs. Also, I can connect to the
server via terminal services, there are multiple processes
of KILL.EXE. I'm familiar with the two applications and
I'm certain this isn't a virus or any malware. Any ideas
on the culprit and how to fix this?

Thanks!
Geoffrey

kill would not normally be in the Startup in Windows 2000. The reason for this is that kill is only installed if you have installed the Windows 2000 Support tools AND they are specific to the Service Pack you are using. So from what you say it looks like at least kill.exe is in your Run keys in the registry or Startup scripts or some other location that is accessed at boot. It should NOT be in there.

Registry's ok and I have no scripts. But i have a
scheduled task that doesn't make that hasn't really
worked, disabled it and gonna restart the server, and see
what happens .. thanks for the reply.
