multiple cell merging?

Is it possible to do multiple cell merging in a number of rows. EG. I want to
merge 3 cells across columns B C & D. But do this for 30 rows. Is there
somewhere in Formatt where I can do this for 30 rows without losing all the
border lines for all 30 rows? Or do I just have to formatt each section in
each row?

Think we could merge 1 row first, say B11, and format it to taste.
Then just select B11 and click the format painter icon (brush) to copy the
format. Then "paint" the format by selecting B230
B230 will be similarly formatted as B11 at one go.

The above said and done, a much better way is to avoid merging cells where
possible. If we want to center headers across columns, say center the header
in B1 across B11, we could select B11, click Format > Cells > Alignment
tab, then select "Center across Selection" from the droplist under "Text
alignment" > Horizontal, and click OK. This would also provide the same
desired visual, but w/o having to merge the cells. Using merge cells is
known to cause inconveniences / difficulties downstream.
