Multilpe VPNs/ using windows VPN in place of proprietary

J

Jethro

Hi all,

as part of work we have clients who use a multitude of VPNs from inbuilt
windows, through SonicWall, Cisco, Symantec ...

is it possible to use the inbuilt "Connect to another network" tool with
windows to make the connection to these VPNs, or am I doomed to have a
machine per connections (because machines don't like >1 VPN software on
them).

If so, what do I need to know ?

I just tried making 2 simultaneous VPN (PPTP) connections from a windows
2003 box to:

a) A Cisco 3002
b) A Windows RRAS server

at the same time and both connected without problem. I did have to make sure
I unchecked the box that says "Use default gateway on remote network" to get
the second one to go. I always do that anyway unless the other end routes to
multiple networks inside. Even if that were the case, you could write a
little batch file to assign the other networks via the appropriate tunnel,
and leave your default route pointed to your local Internet router. So if
the question was, "can you do this", I'd say the answer is yes.
