Multifunction Printer Recommendations?

P

Pete

Thinking about replacing my old Epson Stylus 400 and scanner with a
multifunction printer (print/scan/copy - fax not important).

I'm looking for something that will do general colour printing with
excellent quality and reasonable speed. Photo printing done sometimes,
but not much (I'm using Future Shop, etc. for those generally). I'm
trying to avoid high ongoing ink costs, so I think I'm looking at
Epson or Canon. I do like some of the small HPs though (I am a bit
constrained space-wise). I hear HP and Lexmark have high ink costs
though.

I also have an XP home network using a Linksys router, and I'd like to
share the printer (since upgrading to XP, I can't share my 400 since
it needs a spooling pgm that isn't supported in XP).

I'd like to spend under $300cdn.

Can anyone recommend something good? Thanks!

Look at the Epson CX6400 Good all around printer , a little slow on pics,
great results on Matte paper. Or, look at the Rx500 (I have one) The only
all in one on the market right now that can read slides and negatives.

I use the Canon MPC 600 since a year which is speedy and give good
colors. I am not so much interested in photo printing than in speed and
color for office applications. Printing costs are important and thus
having 3 colors cartridge & 1 black is an advantage. When I bought it a
year ago I saw that it was the model with the lowest cost per page due
to the separate color cartridges. In journal evaluations its technical
evaluation was close to the one of the equivalant HP multifunction
printer. After becoming more wide spread there are some refill
cartridges on teh market, at leats here in Europe, so you are not forced
to buy the original Canon products.
