Multi-User Updating for small website

Hi, I have a small village community website which is hosted at a standard
ISP. I want to be able to allow different users (if I get them Frontpage
licences) to log-in and update individual pages themsleves. What is the
best way of doing this simply but securely without synchronisation errors if
2 users are dialling up and attemtping to change pages?

Hi Steve,

One of the simplest solutions would be to either have subwebs or directories
setup that each person can/should work on. If you go this way everyone would
have access to the entire site with the same user name and password that you
use now..but you would need for everyone to only work in their designated
areas.

Another possibility if you only wanted people update certain pages would be
to use a CMS (Content Management System) Chris Leeds has a nice one called
Content Seed which is located here:

http://contentseed.com/

Using something like that..people could do updates to certain pages through
their browser rather than FrontPage.

??? May his ISP let's him have multiple users? Mine allows 50. Why not
use FrontPage Security in the Extensions? Assign each person a
subwebsite, but only that person and the Webmaster has access to it? Is
there some reason that shouldn't be done?

Hi Vey,

The only way to really answer that would depend upon the "scope" of what
needed to be done. If it was only a case of needing to change or update text
once in awhile..then using a CMS might be fine. If individuals needed much
greater rights to do different tasks inside of a web...then what you are
proposing would be better.

Okay, well then if the OP is still reading. Make a new subwebsite, open
it, choose Tools & Permissions, and assign the subwebsite unique
permissions.

Then make a new username and password, add it to that websites
permissions and you are done. My current provider takes about 30 minutes
for it to happen, but I have had others where it is instant.

Try it out, by opening it yourself in FP with their username and
password, before you fire off that email telling them what the username
and password are. Test it out and put in a placeholder page called
index.htm and tell the new user that they need to either delete or
overwrite that page.
