Multi Monitor problem

Hi, i have 2 monitors that i connected to the video card (via the same port
using some kinda "splitter").

and i cant get the computer to detect '1' and '2', both identify themselves
as '1'.

i went to display properties, enabled the thing, applied, then it went back
to secondary display disabled and both still identifying themselves as '1'.

how do i solve this problem?

You either add a second video card or replace the one you have with a card
that has ports for two monitors. What you are doing can not work any other
way than what is happening.

Can we have details ? Is the video card a Quadro with a DMS-59
connector and hydra cable ?

If this is one of those "one into two" DVI splitter gadgets from
Ebay, then the computer thinks only one monitor is connected, and
the exact same signal is sent to both of them. Your results would
make sense in that case.

You'd better explain in some detail, what kind of cable is involved.

Preferably, point me to a web page, with a picture, or some info
about exactly what you bought. If you give fuzzy info about
your situation, we give fuzzy answers back :)

Modern video cards can drive two monitors, and are termed
"dual head" when they do that. Here is an example of a
video card faceplate, showing three connectors, and you can
use any two of them for independent displays at a time. There
are a couple really cheap ones (maybe $35 or so), where the
dual head thing doesn't work. But the rest would work, to give
two displays. I have one of the video cards that are busted,
and won't show dual displays (and the card was pretty cheap).

With two monitors do you become wide eyed or cross eyed?

Just one of my senior moments <G>.

anyway, the cable thing was wrong. i plugged the sec monitor into the 2nd

I'm away from home at the moment and using my laptop, so I'm neither
wide-eyed nor cross-eyed right now. But when I'm home, using my desktop with
two monitors...
