MSVCRT.DLL error message....HELP! :-)

I built a 2nd PC about 3 months ago. It's a non-gaming PC so I put in
a 7000 series nVidia card. I'm running XP Pro SP2. About 2 months
after I built the PC I ran Windows Update. After installing the
critical updates I looked if there was anything waiting on the
non-critical side of Update.

There were new video drivers shown so I started the download and
installation. The update failed and now I get these error messages
during the boot up.

First Error box says;
******************************
RunDLL32.exe - Entry Point not found

Procedure Entry Point_Except_Handler4_common could not be located in
dynamic link library MSVCRT.DLL
*******************************

When I click OK I get this error box;
*****************************
RUNDLL

Error loading P17runE.dll
The specific procedure couyld not be found
*****************************

XP Pro seems to run fine....the video card runs fine but I can't get
rid of the error messages. Plus it leave 2 examples of rundll32.exe
processes running.

Any help you can give me would be helpfull.

What's the version of the msvcrt.dll file? Don't the Windows Update
drivers for NVidia, use the ones from nvidia.com.

What's the version of the msvcrt.dll file?
How do I tell?

Do a search for it in C:\Windows\System32. Right-click the file and
selection properties. Click the version tab. It should be at least
version 7.0.2600.3085.
The update failed so I'm still using the drivers that came with the
card.

You may want to get the 169.21 version from NVidia to see if they
improve your situation:

You were running this machine without being fully patched for 3 months? Was
the machine ever connected to the internet or any networks during those 3
months? Has a firewall been abled at all times? Has a functional
anti-virus application been installed at all times?

I got it fixed 3CW.

It wasn't actually msvcrt.dll.....it was P17runE.dll which is a
Creative Audio file.

The question is though....why would a failed nVidia video driver
update on the MS Windows Update site mess with a Creative driver
file?????

I had to use RegEdit to delete the P17runE.dll entry. After I rebooted
all was well.

It was fully patched during the initial installation.

I never run with Auto-Update....I always prefer to take a look at the
updates first. I run my XP installations on Notify.
