SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to start Microsoft FrontPage 2000, you
may receive an error message similar to the following:

C:\Office\Frontpg.exe

A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Msvcirt.dll is linked to a missing export Msvcrt.dll.
CAUSE
This issue can occur when the Msvcirt.dll or Msvcrt.dll
files are corrupt or of an incorrect version.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, rename the existing Msvcirt.dll and
Msvcrt.dll files, and then repair Microsoft FrontPage. To
do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft
Windows, the following steps may be different on your
computer. If they are, see your product documentation to
complete these steps.

Quit all running programs.
On the taskbar, click Start, point to Search, and then
click For Files or Folders.
In the Search Results dialog box, type
Msvcirt.dll;Msvcrt.dll in the Search for files or folders
named box.
In the Look in list, click Local Hard Drives, and then
click Search Now.
In the Search Results pane, right-click a file name that
is not in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder and then on the
shortcut menu that appears, click Rename.
Rename each .dll file extension .old. For example, rename
Msvcrt.dll to Msvcrt.old.

NOTE: When you attempt to rename the Msvcrt.dll or
Msvcirt.dll files that are stored in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
folder, you receive an error message similar to the
following:

Cannot rename MSVCRT: The specified file is being used by
Windows.
Follow steps 5 and 6 for all Msvcrt.dll and Msvcirt.dll
files that appear in the Search Results pane and are not
stored in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.
On the taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then
click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
In the installed programs list, click Microsoft FrontPage
(or Microsoft Office 2000 if you installed FrontPage from
the Office CD), and then click Add/Remove.
Click Repair FrontPage (or Repair Office), and then follow
the steps to repair FrontPage (or Office).
Restart the computer, and then start Microsoft FrontPage
