MSVCR80.dll

On one of my 3 PC's after getting a WD update my AVG anti-Virus instructs me
to restart...after the restart I get the MSVCR80.dll error message saying the
file cannot be found. I then have to delete the MSASC exe file in WD to
clear the error message on restart, and then have to re-install AVG. My
other two PC's are not experiencing this problem...Any help appreciated..

Hello Dave,

If you are seeing an error message stating MSVCR80.DLL is missing, please
delete c:\program files\windows defender\MSASCui.exe.manifest

Look carefully at the file, --note that it has a
double-suffix--.exe.manifest.

You want to delete that .manifest file, and NOT any other.

If you want to be safer about it you can choose to rename it or move it to a
location of your choice, rather than deleting it, but deleting this
particular file is safe.

I hope this post is helpful, but we would highly appreciate it if you could
rate the pºst, so we can keep the community informed and saves somebody
else the hours of trawling through the web trying to find a solution.

Engel, as I said I am deleting the MSASCui.exe.manifest file to get things
back to normal, but when you get WD updates the file is loaded again and the
cycle starts all over....I then have to delete the manifest file again...then
I have to re-install my AVG Anti Virus software etc. etc....It's a pain to
say the least....Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Your original post said "I then have to delete the MSASC exe" nothing is
mention about the .exe.manifest.

Now, Just out of interest. What version of Windows are you using?

Have you read the responses to the other messages relating to this prºblem?
I would recommend you use the Search For: box, and enter MSVCR80.DLL to
get the lates news or advance IN eªch NG.

Also, What WD version are you now showing?

Mine indicates:

WD v. 1.1.1593.0
Engine v. 1.1.1904.0
Signature v. 1.14.1948.9

Does that check out with you?

Let me do some searching in the mean time.

Sorry...I didn't make that clear...Running XP home with SP2 and all
patches...The strange thing I only had to delete the exe.manifest file one
time on my other PC's (running XP & AVG also) and the file has never
re-appeared, but for some reason it keeps getting loaded on this one....My WD
and Engine versions match with yours but my Definition Version reads,
1.14.1941.7

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Is strange.

I cannot locate certain informacion, Mysterious. The informacion in the post
has disappeared . Better said, the post has disappeared.

But I remember more or less. If you have 1593 That upgrade includes up to
two free telephone support calls to Microsoft in support of it.

I'd recommend calling 1-866-pcsafety if you are in the U.S. or Canada.
Elsewhere, call your local Microsoft subsidiary, or the number for paid
support in your locale--and ask for the free help related to Windows Defender
Version: 1.1.1593.0 issues. This help extends to spyware removal as well.

Note that you will need to call (or email) Microsoft PSS for this. Simply
state that you are looking for this fix and don't discuss other issues on
the call, and there won't be any charge

Let us know how it works ºut.
