MsnMsgs.msi

Sean

I recently upgraded my os from 98 to XP Pro. In the
process, I also upgraded my MSN Messenger. I had 4.7 and
I now have 6.1. Now, everytime I start windows, an
installer attempts to run but an error message is then
generated stating that MsnMsgs.msi cannot be found. If I
click "cancel" messenger 6.1 will then load and run just
fine. I have attempted to repair, uninstall and
reinstall 6.1 but I keep getting the same error message
as stated above. Also, 4.7 is still on my computer but
does not appear in the add/remove program list. Any
thoughts on how to stop the installer from running each
time I start windows?

Jonathan,

I gave that a try. Unfortunately, when I run the
installer I get the same error message and the program
will not reinstall. Same thing happens when I try to
uninstall.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

"cannot find" msi problems solved

Well I’ve had a few problems with this, but found a way around it:

1. 1STLY FIGURE OUT WHICH VERSION OF MSN YOU CURRNTLY HAVE? THIS IS USUALLY FOUND UNDER MSN/HELP/ ABOUT (mine was 7.0.0816)

2. GET THE INSTALLER FOR THIS VERSION FROM THE MICROSOFT WEB SITE:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f3-b50c-4d9b-b261-687e0082feb8&DisplayLang=en

3. TRY TO INSTALL THIS? ALTHOUGH THE INSTALLATION MAY NOT GO TO COMPLETION, after the extraction part of the installation go to the temp files ( possibly C:\WINDOWS\Temp) and copy the IXP000.TMP folder to your desktop

4. Finish the installation; the temp file will be deleted but don’t worry the msi file is now in the folder you copied to you desktop

5. copy this folder back into the temp folder

6. open msn via what ever means, shortcut or under programme files

7. the msi file will now be found and can now repair its self

hope this helped, I had this problem when updating my windows, but it seems to occur a lot

mikeP, please help out by looking at my business link : http://www.bluemanager.co.uk it’s a site that gives trading advice using neural networks and genetic algorithms, thanks once again, mikeP
