MSN Messenger Display Picture

I have had a problem for some time whereby Messenger keeps changing my display picture between sessions and does not remember the picture I set. It just randomly picks one from those available. All my options seem set OK. Is there a registry setting that needs to be tweaked ?
Messenger 7.5.0299 and Windows XP SP2 Build 2600
Any ideas ?
