MSN Messenger and DDK's TestCap don't get along

Hello, everyone,

I wrote a virtual video capture driver based on the TestCap sample from the
DDK 2003. It works fine in most applications that connect to my virtual
camera. But when I run configuration wizard in MSN Messenger 6.1 and select
my camera as a video input source I get "Camera error" message with details
"The camera you selected is not working properly, or maybe in use by another
program."

The virtual camera is not used by any other application and I can connect to
it from any other video capture software. The same problem exists in
recognizing TestCap virtual driver by MSN Messanger. I found several posting
on the internet complaining about same problem with real physical cameras.
The problem was often resolved by updating drivers to the latest version.
From this I conclude that the problem is the driver itself.

So the question is, are there any ways to find out the reason of the driver
not being accepted by Messenger? Is it a well known problem and maybe
someone already have a solution for this?

Thank you for any suggestion you have,
Anatoly Smelkov
