msmsgs.exe causing CPU problem

B

Bill

From a previous post, my problem is the hour glass comes
up about every minute and freezes the mouse for a couple
of seconds (Windows XP). I followed the advice given to
check the Window Task Manager Processes and found that
msmsgs.exe (Window Messenger) is causing the freeze. I
have set ZoneAlarm to "Allow" and to "Block" with no
results. MSMSGS.EXE is not in StartUp. How can I prevent
this process from running and trying to access the
Internet?

Thanks for the help...

there is a script available, I cant even remember what Post i found its link
in but here it is.
this is the direct link
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_messenger_remove.htm and use the
download methode .
I ran the script and NAV tryed to stop it, I let it pass and it removed all
accounts of msmsgs.exe and windows messenger, and also by removing the
Windows messenger my ports in ICF are not opened after a reboot. BIG PLUS
for me. I tryed the gpedit.msi but found too many drawbacks, the
add-remove programs was NOGOOD it simply removed the icon from All Programs.
and I wont even tamper with my reg

Sofar i have not experienced any problems and my system is betteroff without
msmsgs.

For my money, the msmsgs.exe file you mention is the download from msn and in my opinion never works good. remove it from your system and use the windows messenger that came with your xp operating system, it will tell you if you need to update it and it works just as well and almost looks the same but the difference is no problems. If you can't find it on your system, check add/remove windows components it may need to be installed from your xp disc

sorry, I forgot to tell you one more thing, when you sign on to windows messenger with your passport id, all of your contacts and info you had on MS messenger will appear, you will not lose them, they are attached to your id.

I believe the probem is actually more seriouse (at least in my case) when
using WM, considering that when using the Download version of messenger
MSBSA does not seem to find problems but while using the W.Messenger there
were what I'd call "problems".
but hey what ever works.

the best bet is to completely remove WM raher than to hide it as add-remove
and some scripts will do, stopping NAV from scanning Messenger does
nothing but make more risks, and unchecking "start with windows" or that
"uncheck" one from OE is no stopper msmsgs still finds a way

as for what you say here;
"For my money, the msmsgs.exe file you mention is the download from msn "

*****the msmsgs.exe is part of the Windows Messenger. **** as well as the
msn from the looks of it.

Thanks for the help...looks like that problem is solved;
however, the freeze still occurs. Now the process is from
Symantic using my new updated Antivirus 2004. The CPU
says it NAVAPSVC.EXE. Each time this process occurs, the
hour glass comes up and freezes the mouse momentarily.
