.msi failed to associate to run with any program

I had downloaded the windowsdefender.msi file and try to run the installation
in my computer. However, the file does not recogonize which program it should
be used to extract the file. Can anyone tell what should I do? Basically I
installed weblab viewlite 4.0 recently and it associate the
windowdefender.msi to run with this program. Suppose it should be run by
windowsinstaller? But how can I associate the file to run with window
installer?

You can install via msiexec /i windowsdefender.msi

(this is at a command prompt, in the folder that WindowsDefender.msi is
located in.)

Fixing the file association requires some effort:

To here:

http://www.dougknox.com/

click on file association fixes

then click on MSI File association fix.

Choose open, then double click msi1.reg

That should fix the file association. The fact that the association
appeared to be with your newly installed app is happenstance, I believe.
I'm not sure what blows away this association--I'm inclined to think some
past malware infection.
