OK, let's see what we know now.

All 4 computers are on the same subnet 192.168.1.0/24. All 4 computers have
DHCP client enabled, and have DHCP settings. All 4 computers are running NetBT.

There is a discrepancy in the browser though. All 4 computers see the same
master browser - HOM200OF001. However, HOM200OF001 and hom200of002 are getting
browse packets from 3 computers ("There are 3 servers in domain MSHOME ..."),
while hom100fr001 and P933iii are getting browser packets from 4 computers
("There are 4 servers in domain MSHOME ...").

Let's start with the latter discrepancy. How are HOM200OF001 and hom200of002
similar to each other, but dissimilar from hom100fr001 and P933iii? Operating
system, hardware, network connectivity, personal firewalls would be obvious
details that you could think about, can you think of any others?

Did you run these logs before or after tweaking NIS? Did you run all logs
simultaneously (ie without any changes made during the run of all logs)?

The 3 servers is apparently misleading information. Apparently something
changed during the gathering of information. The sequence was hom200of001,
hom200of002, p933iii and hom100fr001. The Ethernet connection on P933iii has
come loose in the past and the wireless connection to hom100fr001 has failed
in the past. What ever the case, a recheck of hom200of001 and hom200of002
shows 4 servers. Since you were basing your next steps on faulty information,
you may want to take another approach and I don’t know if you still need
computer hardware information.

To remove the MShome is not accessible problem, I removed NIS 2007 from both
hom200of002 and hom100fr001. Then I put all four computers on the network
hardwired and the fifth computer wireless and re-installed NIS2007 on
hom200of002 and hom100fr001.

I dropped the fifth computer back off and moved hom100fr001 back to
wireless. Then I ran the browstat status, ipconfig /all, net config server
and net config workstation on each computer in sequence and did not make any
additional changes while creating the logs.

Hom200of001 has Symantec Client and Windows Firewall. P933iii has the
Windows Firewall and currently has no virus protection.

All computers have the same operating system Windows XP SP2

I noted that after reading your notes that remote registry is important. I
note when cpsservwas run on hom200of002 and showed no active service named
remoteregistry is found. This information was part of what I deleted to meet
the posting word limit.

I decided next to enable the remote registry on hom200of002 to see what
effect that change had. Then I turned off P933iii to see if the remaining
computers My Network Places can detect that the shares on P933iii are gone.
What I have been reading is that I need to wait a little less than an hour. I
turned P933iii off and went to bed. However in the morning hom200of002 and
hom200of001 continue to show shares that don’t exist. I didn’t see any change
by enabling remote registry.

P933iii was turned back on. Here is the today’s hom200of002 browstat
status(hom200of001 is similar).

At this point I don't see IP address and Mask but rather the MAC
address of home router. There isn't a Home Network Wizard.
There is an Advanced Settings. I selected Configure

Norton Internet Security 2007 does not have a Block access to
secure sites.

It does show the Default Block Inbound and Outbound ICMP as
Blocked and Block Windows File Sharing as Blocked. Per the web
site under these conditions I shouldn't be able (I am on
hom200of002) to reach hom200of001 and hom100fr001 and modify files
but I can. I can also ping to hom200of001 and hom100fr001 by using
the computer name.

I am left with I still donƒ Tt know how to fix Norton Internet
Security 2007 other than making sure all the components that will
be in the network are active, uninstalling Norton Internet
Security 2007, and reinstalling Norton Internet Security 2007.

As I said, I'm not very familiar with this product. Generally,
access can be granted on several levels. One of which is the
originating IP address ... so that any traffic originating from your
local network is always trusted and allowed to work (with your
reinstall, this is probably what you have now). Another level is
blocking/allowing specific ports. Microsoft networking uses ports
135, 138, 139, and 445. If these ports are blocked, it won't work.
(That is what the Allow Microsoft Networking button probably does).

The best advice I can offer you at this point is to read and
understand the manual that comes with this product.

The user's manual doesn't cover the trusted traffic, etc. It is not obvious
in the help menu how to configure and I haven't been able to get the trusted
configured so communication is allowed. I did contact the Symantec India
support and didn't get any useful information. Since the Norton Internet
Security 2007 does indicate that the trusted is the MAC address of the home
router, it does appear all the traffic originating from the network is
trusted. However I find that if the home router dies I can't manually input
the new home router information. The only way I found to deal with Norton
Internet Security 2007 problems is to reinstall.

Thanks for the Microsoft networking port information.

I don't have the Allow Microsoft Networking button. I have seen that in a
newer product. I believe the product was called Norton Endpoint Protection.

Thanks for the help. I did get familiar with different commands such as
Browstat vw etc. As long as I am not getting the MsHome is not accessible I
am planning to move on to other more important problems.

There is a second thread under this topic. Originally I put a second post My
Network Places Share Not Accessible. However Chuck considered that post the
same as the Mshome is not accessible. That thread I am continuing to see if
there is a solution to the My Network Places Share Not Accessible.
