MSDE 2000 Installatioin

If this is not the correct forum for a msde question please direct me.
Installing msde 2000 requires a strong sa password. Is there any clear
guidance on how to accomplish this. I have failed several times. From what
I
understand the command line should look like:

c:\msde\SETUP.EXE INSTANCENAME="NetSDK" SAPWD="yourSAPassword"

where "yourSAPassword" is my windows password. Installation starts and then
tell s me that it won't proceed without a strong password. Why is this so
hard.

I'm not sure why that doesn't work, but I can tell you that the sa password
is not the same as your windows password. As long as you are using widows
authentication, it shouldn't matter what password you choose. Also, if this
will be the only instance of SQL on your machine you can leave off the
instance name and you will get a default instance which you can reference by
(local) or . if it is located on the local machine which I assume it is
since you didn't set disablenetworkprotocols=0. So your one setup
parameters is just SAPWD="password".

How does one tell msde is installed? I saw it go thru the installation
process but how do I verify that it exists.

Thanks,
