MSAS not detecting .magnet

R

RJK

Am using MS Anti-spyware Beta 1, (updated)
When I run Azureous 2.3.0.6 it drops a key called ".magnet" into my
registry. MSAS realtime scanner doesn't detect it.
Computer Associates eTrust internet security suite's Pestpatrol 5's realtime
scanner also didn't detect it but, does detect it as "Grokster" if I ran a
scan. ...that should be "when" I ran Pestpatrol scans, ...I completely
removed CA eTrust stuff 'cause their server was offline yesterday, one thing
led to another and because the damned eTrust stuff couldn't synchronize
licensing information, it almost crippled my machine. My latest opinion on
the CA eTrust software can be summarised in one word ...CRAP !

Any comments appreciated.

Comments such as "Don't run Azureous" ...not funny ! :)

As MS Antispyware is still Beta ,it might be false positive.

You can use your MS AS to remove the malware ,even if you scan in Safe Mode.
To make sure if you are infected or not ,scan with

Panda Software free Active Scan where you can check your PC for ALL kind of
malware:
http://www.activescan.com

Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE Personal
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware

If you have malware problems ,follow the malware removal instructions in my
web-site to clear the infection .

....I've posted to these two NG's in case anyone stumbles across my moan
about magnet on this thread and won't spot this post if I only post to
microsoft.public.security.virus if u c wot i mean !

....I've since looked into the Grokster / .magnet registry key in more
detail, and it appears to be a normal (non-malware) function of the Azureus
torrent P2P application :) <VBG>
....it was CA eTrust anti-spyware program that was highlighting it. It seems
that the CA anti-spyware module considers all P2P applications to be malware
!
....and since the CA server collapsed, the day before yesterday I think it
was, and my 30 day trial of CA internet security suite came to a grinding
halt becuase I had to uninstall / clean up after it / reinstall - which it
wouldn't do properly because it couldn't synchronize the myriad "licensing
synchronization" funtions littered throughout the suite, I DUMPED IT FOR
GOOD !!! ...so thanx CA, ....5 days into your product evaluation I threw it
away because it causes so many problems when your server is down.
