MSAS (Beta 1) latest definitions 5872 are out. (And still not sign of
an invitation to upgrade to Beta 2 'Window Defender').

Thank you. New definitions successfully updated.

I received an invitation to upgrade (in pop-up menu) a week (or two) ago
and replied to remind me 1 day later. No more invitations till now.

Post Scriptum:

I've got second invitation to upgrade and installed WD today.
No problems with it, so far. WD don't interferes with my PC.
So don't be afraid to upgrade.

Two questions:
1) Should I delete c:\Program Files\Miscrosoft Antispyware directory and
all related entries in Registry?

2) Is MS going to place a reference to WD at Start-->Control
Panel-->Security Center?

However, one problem occurred with WD. When I started full system scan,
WD first scaned 314508 objects for about 1 hour (for instance, quick
scan took less than 4 minutes) and than stops at scanning (only 938
bytes) text file:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\errors.log

When I press "Stop Scan" it replies:
Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800705b4. This operation
returned because the timeout period expired.

I think it is a bug in WD. So my previous opinion was too optimistic.

I've made a second attempt to run full system scan (after restarting
Windows). It doesn't work!
Now WD Full system scan scanned 314798 objects (for more than 1 hour,
exactly 01:11:09) and stops at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\diagnostic.log
Pressing "Stop Scan" leads to the error mentioned in my previous post.

1) Sure--if there's nothing in quarantine you might need to recover.
2) in Vista, but not in XP as far as I know.

Hi KP,

start to delete that folder, no use anymore!
Or is AntiSpyware still running, than the uninstall did not work!
Look in the taskmanager of there still running Antispy parts.

Thank you, Tom.
Thank you, Bill.

I'm sorry, but this didn't help me.
WD Full system scan still doesn't work on my PC.

1) I found no presence of MSAS. Suppose it was uninstalled by WD.

2) Erasing of unused directories -- didn't help. I erased all of them.
But, indeed, what is the difference: do I have a directory c:\*** or
don't?

3) Registry cleaning by CCleaner -- didn't help. Even after restarting
Windows.

Last time WD Full system scan stopped at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\SENDFILE.EXE

(I'm still using MS Office 97 [licensed, of course])

Verdict:

Full scan option in WD doesn't work (on my PC).
It's looking for a random directory on HDD where to stop and produce
errors.
It is a bug in WD, not in my PC.

Note for MSAS users: There is no sense to upgrade to WD now. Wait for
new versions of WD. Hope the problem will be solved soon.

I agree that this appears to be a bug. Googling, I see at least one other
person with a similar issue on their machine.

I suppose that for completeness I should ask whether a chkdsk /f finds
anything to fix on your system, but I don't have high hopes for that idea.

Thanks for the attention, Bill.

I have a 30 Gb HDD, divided into two partitions: big NTFS disk C:\ and a
very small FAT32 D:\ (original copy of Windows from Fujitsu, instead of
recovery CD). I'm checking the disks once a month or two, and
defragmenting C:\ as well. I run checkdisk once more - it found nothing
to fix.

Scan results:
McAfee full scan - OK.
Ad-Aware full scan - OK.
MSAS full scan - (was) OK.
WD quick scan - OK.
WD full scan in safe mode (F8) - OK.
WD full or custom scan (with or without advanced options) - completely
unpredictable results. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Last time Full
Scan process stops at my own jpeg-file in "My Documents" directory and
hung up. But most of all it "likes" sendfile.exe

It takes no CPU time if it hung up, it is just not working. When I
"close" WD (Alt-F4) and restart it again it is still scanning
sendfile.exe When I "exit" WD (via it's menu) and restart it again, it
reports that "No unwanted or harmful software detected. Your computer is
running normally".

I have no ideas!
