MS Word XP will not save changes to the toolbar.

I have a user that is trying to add icons. However, once he closes Word, all
the changes he made to the toolbars are lost.

Any ideas?

When the Customize dialog box is open, he must make sure that "Save in"
(bottom of dialog box) is set to the template into which he wants to save the
changes (in his case, it may be Normal.dot).

In order for the changes to remain, the template in question must be saved.
He can save the changes at once: Press and hold the Shift key while you
select File > Save All. If the changes were made to Normal.dot and if a
dialog box opens, asking whether to save changes to Normal.dot, click Yes.

This worked. However, I don't ever remember having to do this in the past.
Was this changed in an update or something?

Some add-ins prevent the Normal template from being saved. The most common
at the moment is the Acrobat 7 add-in; see the very last section of

Could be another add-in with the same effect.
