MS Security UPdate Windows XP (KB926436) MS07-011

Upasna

This security patch was release 2 years back and broke one of our custom made
product. The error we got was (Component crystl32.ocx not correctly
registered, File is missing or invalid). We were basically trying to
generate the reports out of VB Application.

We immediately back out the patch and the product worked fine. Can anyone
help me understand/answer the following questions:

1. Is there any MS Patch released that is more powerful than the MS07-011 so
that we could avoid this troublesome patch and try the new/powerful security
update?

2. If not, can anyone help to understand what can be done to get rid of this
error message.

I am layman about the MS Patches and would just seeking help.

Thank You!

Try registering the .ocx file, since you're alerted that it isn't
registered:

Install the patch, then open a Run window and enter the following:

regsvr32 crystl32.ocx

Hi Upnasa, my name is Kaja and I would like to try to help you. I will try
to answer all your questions simply and the best I can. Regarding Microsoft
updates and security patches: hackers and computer pirates love to
compromise and seek and exploit vulnerabilities in Microsoft and the
operating system and programs. They constantly search and do this, hence the
need for Microsoft to keep issuing a series of updates and security patches
or fixes to counter this. This is one reason why Apple computers have become
so popular their security level is much less vulnerable

So to answer one of your questions newer updates and patches or fixes that
are issued by Microsoft may be more "powerful" or perhaps a better term is
more comprehensive and up to date. Which is why you should set your computer
to automatically receive updates so you get them all.

Now regarding this specific update MS07-011 I went to suuport.microsoft.com
to research this for you and entered that update and searched the website.
here are the results I got explaining that update:

Microsoft has released security bulletin MS07-011. The security bulletin
contains all the relevant information about the security update. This
information includes file manifest information and deployment options. To
view the complete security bulletin, visit one of the following Microsoft Web
sites:
Home users:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/update/bulletins/200702.mspx
(http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/update/bulletins/200702.mspx)

Since this update was released two years ago you said what I think is the
best course of action is to update again with all the new updates and patches
since then. This should take into account any further errors. Please let me
know if this has helped you
Best Regards,
Kaja

Perhaps a dependent file is missing.

Is SP3 installed yet ? If so, then that contained the latest file
Version of oledlg.dll for XP, which is the file that was updated when
installing KB926436, Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-011.

I tried running it and it gave me error message as
Load Library (Crystl32.ocx) failed. The specified module couldn't be found.
The ocx file is in shared folder which is mapped to the workstation. Do I
need to make this file added in some local folder?

Thank You!

Thanks!

But I would like to understand if the patch is really needed now since we
have got further updates being added ion the workstations. Is this patch post
any different vulnerability that is never being addressed by further patches
till now?

Thank You!
