When I try to import ms outlook from ms office 2003 into ms office xp, (which
I save into a folder) I get the message that access to the file denied.
During the export process the files (.pst) the no encryption box is check
and password is blank and the save the password box is uncheck.

Can some assist please, thanks.( Pls note this is my 2nd posting as the last
one about 20 minutes does not show up)

If the Outlook 2003 PST is in Unicode format then Outlook 2002 won't
recognize it. You'll need an ANSI format Outlook 2003 PST. Open it in
Outlook 2002 and copy data over - don't import it to avoid possible issues.
Also make sure it is not set to read-only.

How can we tell Outlook 2003 is in Unicode format? Just tried to copy the
export file (either from the original hdd or from the burnt copy) and paste
into the intended hdd and try to import it. I did not get the access denial
message.

But the new eror message is that the .pst file version is not compitable
with version of the Personal Folders Information. Seems strange why cant I
import directly from the DVD //

Also how do we check that it is "not set to read-only"
Thanks for your response

DVDs are read only. Any file on a DVD will be read only. To check the properties, right click, select properties.

To find out what format your .pst file is, File->Data File Management. Highlighr your .pst file - either it will say 97-2003 or Personal Folders. The former is the older, the latter is the new. The new format only works in 2003 and 2007.

Since my office xp (ms outlook is 2002) and I am trying to import it from
2003. Lets say if I install ms office 2003 into my 2nd hdd (hence outlook
2003) which is the same as I export from. The export fiiles are burned into
the dvd (which is read only), will I be able to import into the 2nd hdd. In
short I do not know the significant of reay only.

As it is I copy from the dvd into the 2nd hdd and see the properties of the
files, its still 'read only". Can you please explain my objective that is
transfering from old hdd into new hdd (same version of ms office 2003) via
dvd. And use this dvd as a backup. Thanks
