MS Office 2000

I just purchased a Gateway Pentium 4 3.06 GHz with an XP operating system (version 5.1.2600). It came with MS Word 2002 but unfortunately the rest of it is MS Works (no Excel, no Publisher, no PowerPoint etc). After years of working with MS Office, I can't go backwards.

Here's my dilemma. I have a genuine MS Office 2000 Professional CD I want to load. It says it's recommended for NT and 98 but doesn't say XP. Will it work on XP? If yes, then will it overwrite the newer version of MS Word already on my computer (I don't want it to)? Also, the Internet Explorer version on the CD is 5.0 but my computer has 6.0. I don't want to overwrite this either.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Custom install of Office 2000. Don't install Internet Explorer.
Office 97 and up work fine on XP. It doesn't mention Windows XP because -
it did not exist when you got it.
