ms messenger 6.1 problem

i recently installed messenger 6.1 after rebooting both versions 6.1 and 4.7 would come on at the same time. the only way i could remove 4.7 completely was to reboot in safe mode and remove the messenger folder

version 6.1 runs fine on my machine however xp doesnot reconize it as installed properly
i have come to this conclusion because in outlook express in my contacts list it no longer will put up the messenger icons even though my 6.1 messenger program shows them as being online

also when i try to initiate the remote assistice feature it also reports that messenger is not installed properly
my goal is try to figure out a way to install messenger 6.1 in a mannar that messenger icons will once again show up in outlook express when the are online. i would appriciate any assistance with this manner.

Ik geraak niet meer in msn messenger. Gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord zijn onjuist, nochtans anderen via hun pc, geraken er wel in. Programma geeft altijd een interne fout weer.

Greetings Marilyn,

MSN Messenger 6 does not integrate with Outlook Express on Windows XP -- there is no way to
have this functionality.

As for Remote Assistance, you *will* need Windows Messenger installed and will need to
reinstall it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp

After you've reinstalled it, open it up (click Start, then Run, type "msmsgs" and click OK),
click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this Program when Windows starts'
or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on version).

Also, do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a
new "instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Windows Messenger and cause
it to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton
Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton
Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and
click OK.

Why is there so much DIS-harmony here? I just can't understand why
Microsoft has created such a schism with the Windows Messenger 4.7/MSN
Messenger 6.X fiasco.

Why in the world didn't they coordinate this such that MSN Messenger 6.X
would just update Windows Messenger and effectively replace it?
