Every few minutes, I get the popup saying MS Anti-Spyware has granted access
to the following registry startup : QTTASK.exe (for quicktime). It just
authorizes it. It does not give me the option in the pop-up window to
disable it. So I run the AntiSpyware program and go to the registry startup
options, and set qttask to BLOCKED. But in the next few minutes, the pop-up
again informs me it has granted access to QTTASK. This goes on and on,
ad-nauseum.

I don't WANT it to startup. I have disabled every startup option in the
quick time preferences, including file association monitoring and automatic
updates. Why does it keep going to my
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key?

More importantly, why won't MS A-S stop it?

2 actions I would recomend, assuming that you need QT on
the system.

Get the latest QT STAND ALONE ie do not auto instal from
site. Then remove existing QT and install new one.

Go to regedit and save a backup and then find qttask.exe.
delete the keys you find.
re start system.

now QT task will not be running in background, but once
YOU start QT it will. to shut it down once running hit
ctrl/alt/del and go to task manager. on processes tab find
qttask.exe and r click to end the process.

Try this:

1) Do a file search for qttask.exe

2) Rename all instances of qttask.exe to qttask2.exe (or qttask.old)

3) restart your computer Now qttask can't load, but won't generate an error
message.

You can still view .mov files just fine. Good luck!

If you're not using Apples Qucktime viewer application then un-installing it
will remove qttask.exe
More importantly, why won't MS A-S stop it?

Because it isn't spyware. (in the definitions file for MS Anti-spyware)

It's part of the Apple Quicktime viewer. Qqtask.exe allows you to run
Quicktime from the notifications area by loading the Quicktime icon there.
Apparently it's either buggy (memory leak), or uses a lot of resources by
design.

Well there is a new thing on the internet i have read
about not tryed yet called: Quicktime Alternative.

From what i know it gives you the codecs for
quicktime .mov and all the usuals and makes it work in
windows media player or others aswell.

I do not know where to find it or if its legal. I just
read about it might help you. but i bet you must
uninstall regular quicktime befor running the quicktime
alternative.

Yes, I've read about that and one for Real Player files as well. It seems
though, Real Player has finally gotten the message that some of us don't
want the stuff running at all times.

I have always installed the standalone installation of my PAID FOR Quicktime
software.
