MPEG4 problem in ppt XP

when I take an .avi file and compress it with Adobe
Premiere 6.5 using Microsoft video codec MPEG4 V1 I CANNOT
import the file into ppt XP. It says there is an error and
closes ppt. I can import the original file, no problem.
This all started on Sept 2nd when I used Premiere to
convert an .mov to .avi file. I can still import
compressed files from before Sept 2nd BUT none from after
that date.
Adobe says check the files supported by ppt XP.
I need help

And installing the newest codecs.

Thanks BUT, it did not seem to help. Can I be sure that
the codecs installed? Do I check under Control panel,
system, hardware, video codec?

No, go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound Video
and Game Controllers.

The last thing in the list should be "Video Codecs" , right click it and
select properties for the entire list.
