I am trying to get a mpeg2 to play using Windows Media. We have three
Radeon 7500 cards installed on a XP professional/Pentium 4 computer,
each sending to a different monitor.
I wrote a program in VB6 that displays 3 different movies full screen,
1 on each monitor. While this will play AVIs, ASFs and WMVs
interchangeably on all three monitors, MPRG2s will only play on the
primary monitor.
To test outside my application I used the Windows Media 9 player. When
I open a WM player, if it is on the primary monitor it will play the
mpeg2. If I move the player to the other monitors, the image will
freeze, but keep playing, so that if I return the player to the
primary monitor it will show again. I can also split the player
between 2 monitors, and see half the movie.
If I open the windows media player on any monitor other than the
primary one then the mpeg4 will not display. Once I have done this, I
cannot play any other WMVs or other media from the player, it will
open then stop, and pressing play will cause the stop button to be
pushed (visibly highlights). Then I cannot open and play any windows
media, even after closing and reopening all players and files. Only a
restart will allow access to media again.
What seems to be really strange is that we had mpeg2 files playing on
all monitors, but when I changed the skin from the XP default (ugly)
to the windows standard, it stopped working.
My questions:
Is this a known issue? Is what I want to do possible? Can mpeg2s be
played on secondary monitors? Is there a setting somewhere I need to
use to turn it on?
There is a secondary issue that seems to be hardware related. I can
play 3 small MPEG2 simultaneously, though only one is displayed.
However if I try to play the large mpeg2 files (1 gig) that my boss
created I have a "catastrophic failure" error message and an attempt
to send an error report to MS. I suspect this is outside the scope of
this group, though any suggestions on this welcome as well.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
