MP3 Recorder (kinda long)

Excuse the length of this post.

I'm trying to undertake a mammoth project. Many years ago,
I made some tapes of a favorite station in L.A.

I used an 8 hour video tape and recorded the station on
a Hi-Fi VCR. The tapes came out perfect. Crystal clear
sound.

Now, I'd like to transfer those tapes onto a CD in the MP3
format. Is there any freeware that will record directly to
an MP3 file?

I tried using a program called "Super Mp3 Recorder version 2.5,
but it doesn't seem to work very well. It's very difficult to
adjust the volume levels.

Just wondering if there is anything else out there that one of
you are using and having good luck with.

What about cdex? It will convert directly to mp3. I've only used it for cd
conversion but I think it will also convert from analog.

Just curious- if the sound quality is so good on your tapes why not convert
to one of the lossless formats?

I like Messer. It can stop recording after a specific time of silence also. See
