MP3 files do not autoplay

Our church posts MP3 (mpeg) audio files of it services to
the internet. I USED to be able to simply click on the
hyperlink and have Windows Media Player autostart to play
the file. It no longer plays it, but simply starts
downloading it.

If I load Windows Media Player and click on File then
click on Open URL the audio plays just fine.

I am using Windows 2000 for an operating system. Another
friend of mine also on Win2K is having the same problem.
We are assuming that we have both done an update to our
systems that has changed the functionality and would like
to get it back.

I have another computer that also has Win2K on it but has
not been patched to the latest Microsoft stuff and it
plays just fine. Any ideas on what to change/fix?
Thank you in advance.

Hm. First thought would be to go to WMP's Tools:Options:Formats dialog (or
File Types tab under the Options) and reassociate MP3 back to WMP. WMP
won't do a direct play of the file if it thinks someone else owns the file
type.

If that doesn't work, you'd want to supply a URL so people could look at
this in action.
