Mozilla Firefox won't install Extensions

Arjan

Please help, somebody.

Just did a fresh install of Mozilla Firefox v0.9.2, and it doesn't seem to
install any extension.

All it keeps saying, after numerous restarting browser and Windows, is:

"this item will be installed after you restart firefox"

My version number in the about:config is 0.9, and I didn't change anything
here.

Any ideas? Someone? PLEEEAAAAZZZZZZEEEE?

In some cases, you need to uninstall the old version and
reinstall the new one. I just update to .9.2 and it took me
twice. The first one I did without uninstalling the previous
version, and it didn't work (all the extensions are not
working properly and not to mention some are un-installable or
un-re-installable). I then need to uninstall everything and
clean up the registry - use IE to set itself as default
browser again, uninstall FF, and go to the registry to clean
up all the entries that have the name "firefox" in it, and
then do a clean install again (some old reg entries could have
gotten there when you install extensions and they never got
reset and causing the browser or extension not working
properly, deleting the files themself are not enough.)

I use JV PowerTools everyday, and it didn't come to mind to clean the
remains of FireFox after I uninstalled it. Feeling stupid right now.
But R.L., I did what you said, uninstalled and removed 2 regkeys with
powertools, and after reïnstalling FF the extensions worked again.
It's 3AM. I'm tired. Now I can go to bed! Thank you!

The thing that happened to me is that I was trying to make FF secure.
Under TOOLS > OPTIONS > ADVANCED in v0.9.1, there is a section there
called "Software Update". The 2 software choices are "Firefox" and
"My Extensions". These I left unticked. But underneath these is a
box that says "Allow websites to install software". Well, NO. I
don't like web installs and esp. don't like automated updates, so I
unticked that.

NOTHING installs after one does that, so this is improperly named.

Obviously this wasn't what happened to you, but I thought I'd mention
it because after making all these changes, all of them good but this
last one, I couldn't install _anything_. Fortunately, one of the
extensions came with some instructions on what to look for and
something in there prompted me to check if this was the problem.

Anyway, no difficulties in installing anything after I switched back
to allowing this behaviour. I figure I have both Firefox and My
Extensions unticked, so that will at least stop the automated updates
of these.

Cheers!
