Moving xp home OEM to another PC

S

scottty

I have two computers.

The first one is an older pc with a new copy of xp pro on
it.

The second pc is one I just ordered still in the box with
xp home edition OEM version on it.

How can I switch the operating systems? Is this ok to do
since I legally have two copies?

Also, I registed the xp pro version w/ microsoft. What
about that?

thx!!!

Preinstalled OEM versions of Windows XP can not be moved
to a different computer. The license is explicitly tied to that
specific PC.

Nope, you can't do that. OEM version are non-transferable. This is just one
of the many downfalls of buying a cookie-cutter oem computer. If you want xp
pro on the oem machine you could put your retail xp pro on it, but then you
have to buy xp pro for the old machine. So basicly you need another copy /
license of xp pro for the new machine. Unless you need the advanced features
of xp pro just stay with xp home because if you do buy xp and install it, it
will void your warranty and support from the oem.

Depends, did you get a XP Home install CD? Do you have a XP Pro install
CD? What company built your computers?

Anyone one that answers yes or no to this question is an outright liar!
Since MS has never sued an individual in your situation, the legality
question is unanswerable as a fact.

MS has no intention of ever suing an individual for violating their
unsubstaniated rules, because they are too chicken to lose. Why?

copyright owner does not possess the exclusive right to such a use." -

Dumb, as there is no legal requirement to give up your anonymity to MS.

You are not allowed to. An OEM copy of the system is strictly licensed
only for the machine on which it is first installed. And anyway there
is a fair probability that one coming with a machine is customised to
work properly with that and will not work well, if at all, on another
