Moving IMAP pst file location

gv

Hi all,

I have Outlook 2003 on windows XP sp2

Trying to do something that should be so simple but, is a problem.
I'm just trying to change the default location of pst file
for my IMAP mail to D drive.

Ok I tried this even though it just talks about pop3 account.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011124801033.aspx

I tried closing outlook, moved the file to were I wanted it, then
opened up "mail" icon in control panel and clicked on location and
it gave me a message to point to were the file is.
I did this and then tried to open Outlook and when
I click send\receive I get this error message?

"The operation failed due to a registry or Installation problem.
Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please
reinstall."

One other thing if your using IMAP account for your main mail why can't you
get rid of the personal folder stuff. This is a pain.......

One more thing should also be able to get newsgroups in Outlook as well.

please help
Gerry

That article does not apply to IMAP accounts. You cannot change the file
location for an IMAP account's PST file.

Thanks for your help.

Do you know why not? should be a easy programming thing to do for Microsoft.

thanks again

Unlike a POP account where you download data, moving it from the server to
the client, an IMAP account maintains all the data on the server. What you
see in Outlook is a replica, a cache. Unless Outlook has a consistent
location for that cache, you run the risk of a real mess if the cache file
isn't available and you want to use that account.

There are lots of things that could be improved with IMAP accounts. This one
is on my list, but not at the top.

Did you try it with an IMAP account, though? That's never worked for me.
