I have a customer who has outgrown SBS 2000 (50 client) limit, but has to
stick with Windows 2000 for now due to a 3rd party app. They have purchased
a new server and wish to retire the current SBS. The new server will not be
running Exchange. They want the server name to stay the same. In my head I
have this scenario....Will it work?
Install new Windows 2000 server as a domain controller to the SBS
Move the FISMO roles from the SBS to the Windows 2000 (Can this be done? -
will SBS allow it?)
Allow replication, etc...
Remove SBS from domain (can this be done? will SBS allow it?)
Rename new Windows 2000 Server to old SBS Server Name
If someone has a better solution, please help me out. If my solution is a
total wash, let me know that too.
Thanks,
Dave
