Moving from Outlook Express 6 and Outlook 2002 (XP) to Outlook 200

I recently bought a new PC and installed Office Professional Plus 2007 on it.
I need help transferring my emails and contacts from Outlook Express 6 and my
contacts and calandars from Outlook 2002 to my new Outlook 2007 system. I
have tried to read through various resources on Office Online, and I end up
very confused about .pst files and such.

I am considering to move my email and contacts from OE to o2002 first, then
transfer o2002 to o2007. So it would be great if someone can give me
step-by-step instructions to do that first.

If you do give me a weblink, try to make sure it gives me steps, not just
various ways to handle .pst files. Thanks!

I use a POP3 account on my outlook express.

If you need my email please ask.

That sounds like a reasonable approach. To move data from OE to Outlook:

1. Use 'File|Export|Messages' from within OE to move messages.
2. Use 'File|Import and Export|Import Internet Mail and Addresses|Outlook
Express' from within Outlook 2002 to transfer addresses. Be sure to UNcheck
the "Import Mail" checkbox. OE does a better job of transferring email,
while Outlook is better at transferring addresses between the two.

Once that's done, to move the Outlook 2002 .PST file to the new computer:

1. With Outlook 2002 closed, make a copy of your .PST file on your old PC.
2. Place this copy in a folder on the new PC where it will NOT OVERWRITE any
existing .PST files.
3. Make sure the transplanted copy is NOT set Read Only (which happens if
you use a CD to transfer the file).
4. Open Outlook on the new machine, go to 'File|Open|Outlook Data File',
navigate to the copy, and click OK.

You can set this file as default and continue to use it, however, if you're
moving to a newer version of Outlook (2003 or 2007), it would be better to
transfer the contents of the copy (VIA drag and drop) to the new, empty .PST
file that will be created when you setup Outlook on the new machine. The
reason for this is that Outlook 2002 and earlier use ANSI format .PST files
which have a hard size limit of 1.6 GB; Outlook 2003 and later use Unicode
format .PST files that have a MUCH larger size limit, on the order of 20 GB.
