moving from looping slides to rest of show

J

John Smith

I have several slides that I want to loop continuously for awhile before I
go to the rest of the slideshow. I got it to work with two custom shows.
But, to move between the custom shows, the right-click menu is displayed on
the screen. I'd rather not have the audience see the right-click menu (it
looks cleaner to not have the menu). Is there any way to do this? Would a
macro be able to do it?

Thank you.

As Echo said, TAJ's linking tip sounds like just what you need. In fact, it
was just what I needed too :) I'm glad I came accross it.

But I believe TAJ has included an unecessary step in his tutorial - a step
that requires you to duplicate a "common" slide and then you have to click "3
times" to advance to the next presentation.

You don't need a common slide. I really don't know why TAJ would have
included that step.

Instead, what you should do is, at the end of your first presentation, COPY
the final slide and remove all animations on it (so that it looks just like
your final slide after its done animating). Then you insert the PowerPoint
File Object.. set the animation properties to AUTOMATIC and OBJECT ACTION >
SHOW. Then you set the slide transition to automatic.

So what happens now, is that after your final slide finishes animating, when
you click ONCE, you will automatically be sent to the first slide of the
second presentation (and this slide should be different.. NOT COMMON.. it
should be the slide you want to see after your final slide on the first
presentation).

This method is great.. but I have one problem with it. When it comes time to
close the powerpoint presentation, I have multiple presentations running all
at once! I have to exit a whole bunch of them before I can get back to edit
mode.

Is there a way to END the presentation once you have linked AWAY from it? I
have a complicated menu structure in my presentation, and this means that a
user could potentially open 20 or 30 presentations before the end of the
show. I can't have all these running at once.. that's terrible. Is there
something I could do?

You'd have to use some kind of macro to end the previous show. I wouldn't
suggest the technique in my little linking/looping/custom show ZIP file for
anything very extensive at all.

Actually Echo.. I spoke with TAJ via email, and he said the problem is that I
was trying to link BACK to a presentation that I just left. This create
multiple copies of the presentations because you can never link to the
original copy.. instead, powerpoint spawns fresh copies everytime you click a
link to another presentation.

So... instead of making multiple links to all you rpresentations, you create
links that "end show" when you click them. Since the previous presentation
is still running below the current one, the current presentation will
dissapear and you're back at the original presentation :)

If you want to loop a show continuously until some point, then build
that show as a stand alone setting the show to loop continuously until
escape.

On the main show you want to start after the loop, on the first slide,
insert the looping show as an object/create from file and set the
objects animation to show, then drag the object to the right so all is
in the grey area.

Now run the main show, and advance one click, this should start the
looping presentation. To stop the loop, press escape at any time, this
will take you to the first slide again in the main show.

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood what you were doing, then. It sounded to me as if
you'd linked to a bunch of files outside your main file and were having
trouble closing them. I wasn't thinking about the custom show part when I
responded, sorry.

I'm glad TAJ was able to pinpoint the issue.
