Moving contacts from 1 folder to another

M

Matt

I just discovered a new problem (I assume it was created by a recent hotfix
or service pack, because it didn't used to be a problem)

If I create a contact, I can move it to a different folder, but I can only
move it once, after it has been moved, I can't move it to another folder, or
back to the original folder. I use multiple folders to manage contacts that
I don't need routinely (on my phone). When I need the contact I move it into
the main contacts folder, and when I don't need to carry it, I move it into
one of several sub-folders. But, all of a sudden, I am unable to move the
contact more than once. What happened???????

I am using Office 2007 SP1 running on XP SP3

I'm not sure what more detail to give, I create a contact in the main contact
folder, or in a sub folder, then, I am able to move it from the main folder
to a sub folder, but once I've moved it once (from 1 folder to another), I
can't move it to another folder, or back to the original folder. This
happens whether the contact was created in the main contacts folder, or any
sub-folder. Once the contact is moved from it's original folder to a
different one, it can't be moved again.

The only thing that has changed in my installation since I was able to move
the contacts the way that I want is that XP was upgraded to SP3 and Office
was upgraded to SP1 (as well as any additional XP or Office patches in the
past few months). Other than that, my installation, configuration and
settings have not changed.

One other update to this issue:

I have been rebuilding by desktop and laptop from scratch (over the past few
days)

I have been very carefully installing the same software, in virtually the
same order, with ALL of the same settings as I go along, and the problem only
happens on my desktop, not my laptop. I am also having a different problem
on my laptop only (I posted that in a different newsgroup). The point is, I
have created what should be 2 virtually identical machines (except of course
drivers) and each one is having a problem with Office, but neither is having
the others problem. Wierd!!!!!!!!

Nothing special. Just the basics would be nice: like why you can't move the
contact and what happens when you try. You're the only one who has seen
this, and we can't read minds or see what you are doing.

Well, you summed it up pretty nicely.

The basics:

If I create a contact in either the main contacts folder or a sub folder
that I create (a contacts folder, of course), I can move the contact by
dragging it to another contact folder, OR by using the "move to folder"
button on the toolbar. BUT once I have move the contact once (from any
folder to any other folder), I can NOT move it again (to another folder),
using either method to move a contact.

What happens, well, nothing it just doesn't move. It remains in the folder
that it is currently in. (like I said, it will move once, from any folder to
another, but then it won't move again). While I am dragging it from the
second folder to another folder (either a 3rd folder, or the one it was
originally in), it looks like it is moving (based on the appearance of the
mouse pointer), but when I release the mouse button (with the new folder
highlighted), nothing happens. Most importantly, the contact fails to be
moved from 1 folder to the other.

I'm not exactly sure how to describe it any better. The contact moves once,
then doesn't move again.

State Error message and Event viewer messages.
State how many Contact Folder you have in this profile and what steps
created this behavior.
State your information store.
