RE: PP 2003

Movies play fine in WMP but can't get video from PP Presentation......only
audio...........sometimes neither!

Try moving everything in your presentation into a folder closer to the root.
In other words, "C:\Pres\...". Sometimes long path names to files throws
off the players.

I put the movies in the same folder as the PPT...but no change. It's
baffling...maybe 1in 20 movies will work.......whether they are AVI or Mpeg
etc. PP seems to link to the movie, but has trouble playing most of them.
All these movies play fine in several players....including WMP 10.

I would recommend some light reading then:

As you can see in these articles, PowerPoint does not always use WMP, so
that is not a guarantee.

Apparently PP is playing these files with MCI Player. I opened them up in
that player and I get the audio but no video. Is there a way around this?

MT,
Powerpoint always uses the MCI player for movies inserted with the "normal"
process.
However you can insert a movie using an activeX control (for whatever
version of Windows Media Player you have installed).
I'm sure this procedure is detailed somewhere, but in short:
Right-click next to your menu buttons and select the control toolbox toolbar
(if it is not already).
On the right hand end of this toolbar there is a button for "more controls".
One of the options liasted should be "windows media player". Once you have
clicked this, draw a box on the slide the desired size of your movie. You
should get an object that looks like a media player window. With the object
selected, click the "properties" button on the control toolbox toolbar. In
the resulting window, there is a slot for "URL" where you can type the name
(and path if necessary) of your movie. The movie *should* then play using
the version of media player installed instead of the MCI player.

The drawback to this process is that if you transfer to another computer, it
MUST have the same version of media player as the one that you made the show
on.

FYI another issue is that it won't play in the free viewer as it doesn't
support code and control items are code. I'm pretty sure anyway. So receiver
will need full version of PowerPoint.

I guess this might be moot as I understand that PP won't embed video or
movies. Only link them to your drive.

Ran into a bit of a snag here: This process worked fine with WMP10...After
upgrading to WMP11 the player shows up but won't play the files in PP! Just
says ready...then nothing happens. Any clues?

Please disregard previous post.......no problem with WMP11...just a set up
mistake.

Sasha, keep in mind that because you were able to make them work on your PC
it doesn't mean it will work if you move the presentation to another
machine. That's why we built PFCPro. It processes the videos so they will
work across all Windows machines. If nothing else, download and install the
two week trial to get you out of the woods for now. The presentation/videos
will work after the trial expires.
