Movies don't play in powerpoint but play ok in windows media plyr

I can play movies in MPEG-2 format in windows media player but power point
2003 will not play the movies. I did not have this problem with earlier
versions of powerpoint and this only occurred when I got a new lapttop. Other
computers in our area have the same problem IF powerpoint 2003 is
loaded...again NOT occuring with older versions of powerpoint. Meanwhile, the
movies play fine in windows media player so the codec must be in the computer

They are videos which I created by editing using Pinnacle Studio 9. They work
in previous powerpoint versions but not 2003.

Ah,

Pinnacle uses (depends on your settings) it's own codec. The codec works in
Windows but does not work well with the MCI player. (Used by PowerPoint).
May I suggest you grab a copy of PFCMedia (www.pfcmedia.com) to both convert
the file to something more suited to PowerPoint and insert it automatically
in your slide/presentation. You should also see a significant reduction in
file size.
