Movie playback in presentation

I have a presentation that has several movie clip embedded in the slides.
The movies run perfectly when I run the PPT from a CD but when I try from
within a folder in My Document (2 or 3 layers down) the movies do not run.

Does anyone know is there a problem in powerpoint when the files are buried
deep in a folder structure. If so, is there a work around>

It's a known issue and you are right, the work around is to shorten the
path.

Thanks. Shame there is no work aroung because I usually store my files in
syncronised network folders which always have a long path.

Another question. Is there a way to convert movie file to flash (or other
format) so that they can be embedded?

If you have Macromedia Flash, you should be able to insert a movie into
flash, and export the file as .swf after insertion. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Nice tip ... and that got me wondering whether you couldn't do the same kind of
thing with Camtasia Studio ... I'm playing with it now. Looks like it might
work.

Have you tried loading your movie in the same folder as the Powerpoint
program? PPT first looks in it's own folder for a file and then to the
linked path. Hyperlinks can get screwed up with long paths and, also, if
you move it to a different computer or location where the listed hyperlink
path is no longer valid. With the linked file in the Powerpoint folder you
can have it on your hard drive and it works because the path is valid. But
now you burn it to a CD and place that CD in a different drive or even on
another computer. It will still run correctly because you've put the needed
files and the Powerpoint program all in the same folder and it looks there
first.
