Movie maker keeps shutting down

I have a problem with movie maker shutting down. I have lowered the acceleration setting to 0, I have renamed the codec's - nothing seems to work. The programs seems to shut down at different points - including adding slides, music and saving the movie. I am running XP Home addition service pack 1 with a 2.4ghz Pentium 4 computer. Any ideas?

Hi there,

I am posting this on the assumption you have not already tried it out....

Your problem may be caused by a codec that Movie Maker does not like. This
a very common issue.

Your one-stop-don't-need-to-look-anywhere-else Solution is with a program
called "Rename Codecs".

Instead of reading miles of dross that is full of maybe's and perhaps's
just run the program, it takes a few moments to identify all of the known
codecs that cause this problem and gives you the opportunity of renaming
them, or, you can now use the new Auto feature in version 1.5 and let the
program take care of virtually everything to do with this problem

You can then run Movie Maker and immediately determine if it actually was a
codec issue. If it was a codec issue Movie Maker will now run properly. If
it was not the issue, you have lost nothing more than a short amount of
time.

Whether or not it was a codec issue you must run the program once more and
restore the problem codecs to their original names.

The two procedures together can take less time than it did to read this
message and a whole lot less than reading mountains of bumph that may or
may not apply to you.

The program "Rename Codecs" is free and available from my website.

While there it would be a good idea to check out the tutorial on how to run
the program...that will take around one minute of your time!!! Use this
quick link to get there real fast http://tinyurl.com/3ewb9

Rich,

Is the crashing only with MM2, or are you having other problems? If it's
only with MM2, did you find any of the problem codecs on your computer?

Lowering hardware acceleration to zero makes it too low. Keep it at the 3rd
notch, or return it to full acceleration if it didn't resolve your issue.

The crashing is only with MM2 - I found 1 problem codec - with Power DVD and removed it from my system - no help, the program still crashes.

I had this problem making a 15 minute movie of individual
jpegs with lots of transitions. I brought my memory up
to 2 gigs and the freezing problem went away.

Hi Rich,

OK, what is the make and model of your graphics card.

How much RAM is fitted to your computer

How much free space is on your hard drive

What exact type of CPU and what speed is it running at

Have you installed the FULL version of DirectX 9 and the FULL version of
Windows Media Player

Do you have a very large lump hammer at hand :)
