movie maker. Are better packages worth it?

Have used movie maker for the first time for a college project. This was dv
camcorder stuff edited to a 21 minute documentary with many transitions,
clips, titles, added sounds, etc. Very pleased with picture but sound
problems occurred. Largely when I changed volumes (like reducing original
sound and mixing in narration or music) I got anooying PPPPHHHHTTT noises.
This sometimes made the picture jump as well. I appreciate MM is a free
package (and very good for what it is) but I want smooth sound transitions.
Would a program like Adobe Premiere give me these results. I do not want to
buy something like this just for better facilities alone. But I will if it
will get round these loss of sound quality problems which (according to you
lot) are inevitable in MM. Idiot proof answers please. Thanks

Top of the line movie maker is Sony's Vegas at about $600, you need to be
really involved. If not, I am very happy with Arcsoft's Showbiz 2. I have
made several movies, excellent quality and easy to use and multi sound tracks
with NO DISTORTION.
Good Luck

a smaller Vegas is Vegas studio and got it with a copy of paint shop pro
for 59 dollars after rebate. comes with audio acid and lots of effects
sounds etc... it is just like the big Vegas but does not include scripting.
also limits you to I believe 4 video tracks and 4 audio tracks but for
things I do this has been fine.... I can not imagine needing 20 video tracks
at once!

a great buy for the money and if you decide you want Vegas 6.0 later
everything you have learned in Vegas studio applies to it's big brother.

if you wish to make the commitment though Vegas 6.0 is one of the nicest
things you can run on a pc. if I was a Mac person I would look at final cut
studio...

more notes.... that platinum version of Vegas studio or creator as the
bundle is called when it is bundled with paintshop pro also included the DVD
creator program that does all the fancy stuff too!

59 after rebate what a deal.....
