movie and dvd playback problems

I recently connected my desktop monitor to my laptop,
combining the monitor's much better resolution with the
notebook's power. However, now, when I try to playback
videos -- from CDs or DVDs (using WinDVD)-- the movies run
just fine on the laptop screen, but the monitor screen is
blank. Other images -- including jpegs, mpegs, video
games, etc. -- do show on both monitors, as do other
programs. I haven't been able to configure so that I only
have the one screen (preferably the monitor) showing. I've
unsuccessfully tried to reset the display to make the
monitor the default screen. Anybody got any suggestions?

What video card are you running?

But with the information I have from you, I can tell you
that your answer will be found in the "settings" tab of
the display control panel. there should be a primary
(laptop screen) and a secondary (external monitor
attached) monitor and your answer will be found by
fiddling with those :)

But do reply with your video card type, I might be able
to help out more with that info
