Move or copy personal directory from external drive to local partition

Windows XP SP2
I want to move my personal working directory (16.1 GB) (no exetutable files,
just saved files) from an external drive to another drive on the computer
(to have the external drive serviced). Have large gigabytes of space on an
empty partition, etc.

Do I have to move small amounts at a time, or can I just (copy) or (move)
the main folder over?

I'm not sure what you need to know to answer this question. For instance,
the pagefile.sys is 786,432 KB and memory is 512 MB RAM and the processor is
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.09 GHz

You could do this either way - the whole directory at once or move/copy in
parts. Since this is an external drive, it will take some time for the task
to complete. Also, I prefer copying over moving. If there is a snafu during
the process, the original copies of the files still exist and nothing is
lost.

Thank you Sharon. I hadn't really thought through the move / copy thing.
Yes, copy would give me a safety net.

Then I have these two folders that aren't my personal folders. Can I assume
I just leave them on the external drive?

Once the files are safely copied, it's up to you what you want to do with
the folders. Personally..

If permanently transferring files, I delete the "old" folders when the
transfer has completed successfully. Or I'll copy them off to CDs or DVDs
and then delete. While I like to keep my "working files and folders" neat
and tidy, I tend to be *very* cautious guarding data and would rather have
too many copies than not enough. Redundancy or outdated versions are
hazards with this method but I try to keep up on that as well.

I also have a few folders that I use to collect information on the fly
(various files on various topics). After transferring those files to
permanent homes, I empty the collection folders but keep them handy to
receive new information.
