Move My Documents Folder

Arne

A logical partition within an extended partition was
created with Partition Magic, and I would like to move
the My Documents Folder (My Music, etc.) to the F: Drive
logical partition (I didn't change the drive letter of
the CD and DVD drives).

The idea is to separate the primary partition on the C:
drive (with WinXP,Program Files and any folders directly
related to the OS) from the folders containing documents
and media stored on the F: drive.

Thank you,

Arne

If I simply move the location of the folder with TweakUI,
what will happen to the documents and folders that are
presently in My Documents?

The other option, which does not use TweakUI, is to right click on 'My
Documents' either within Windows Explorer or the desktop, select properties
and then change the target folder, which is where the documents will be.

It then gives you the option of moving the documents to the new location, or
leaving them where they are.

Good idea. Open a My Computer window on F: and another on
C:\Documents and Settings\you\ to show My Documents

Then with the *right* mouse button down, drag the folder across, on
letting go take *Move* here from the popup, and it will update the
registry so that references to My Documents go to the new place

Similarly any other 'My whatever' folders still left

You would have to move them separately; best done all in one (see my
other reply, and indeed the advice in TweakUI)
