My computer has been giving me constant problems with the mouse, and it
doesn't matter which mouse I use, or whether I plug it into a USB port,
or use an adapter to connect it to the PS/2 port.
When plugged into a USB port, several times per minute the red light
(these are optical mouses, by the way) will go off and then come back
on - sometimes a split second later, other times it takes 3-5 seconds.
Occasionally, the light will not come back on, in which case I have to
unplug the mouse and then re-insert it again. In all cases, whenever
the red light turns off, I get the "USB device not recognized" error. I
already turned off the Power Management in the Device Manager for every
port, but it made no difference.
Using an adaptor and connecting the mouse to a PS/2 port, the mouse
hangs several times per minute and won't work for 1-3 seconds at a
time.
I've tried 4 different optical mouses. The same behavior exists for all
of them. Furthermore, I've tried two different installations of Windows
XP with identical results. By now, I'm suspecting my motherboard is
beginning to fail, but I wanted to ask, could this problem be caused by
a Windows XP update I may have downloaded from Microsoft? Or a
corrupted BIOS?
Thanks for your help.
