Mouse problem:

N

Navyguy

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP, SP3 running Windows Firewall,
Avira antivirus,
Spywareblaster, Spybot (only for updates) and Hive Cleanup and all the
programs work well together and are up to date.

Of late, my mouse has been acting erratically. What happens is that I
click and drag to highlight the text but when I release the mouse
button the highlight disappears or in other cases it moves bits of the
text to other areas or only highlights portions. It 's become so
frustrating that I just cut/ paste. Another example of this is when I
save a link and when I try to drag it to a favorites folder it ends up
in another folder as I'm dragging it. Also I can't seem to move my
folders/files around within My Favorites as I use to without files/
folders ending up in other folders.

I have had my mouse set up for single click for years with no problems
whatsoever as I have wrist injuries but this problem only started
occurring fairly recently so perhaps I need a new mouse?

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Logitech provides regular updates and there isn't any other mouse
software on the system.

Hi Robert,

The symptoms, when taking into account that you are using single-click
rather than double-click in Folder Options, indicate that when you are
single-clicking the mouse button, it is sometimes clicking twice on it's
own, electronically. I have had the same thing happen over the past few
years with 3 different Microsoft mice. In each case, the problem was
that the mouse itself was failing and causing the issue. Replacing the
mouse fixed the issue in each case.

I suggest replacing the mouse. Unless you replace it with the exact
same brand and model, uninstall the Logitech software, and install
whatever software comes with the brand and model you buy.

If you have access to another mouse or can borrow one, you can test the
issue before you spend the money on the new mouse, to verify the problem
is with the mouse itself.

I believe it's the mouse as well but I don't have another or can
borrow one to test the theory. In any case, I will be sure to
uninstall the Logitech software before installing the new if the model
isnt the same.

Thanks
Robert

If I lived in your area, I'd swing by with a mouse so we could test
it.....oh well.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
